Gadjiev's colleagues intend to continue actions in his support
Solo pickets in support of the arrested Abdulmumin Gadjiev should be continued in order to keep Dagestanis aware of the progress of the criminal case, journalist's colleagues believe.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani weekly and website "Chernovik" (Draft), has been under arrest since June 18 under the case of financing terrorism. The journalist himself refuses to plead guilty.
On December 2, his friends and colleagues held a series of solo pickets in Makhachkala in his support. Despite the rainy weather, a total of more than 20 people gathered at the venue. Ten of them took direct part in the pickets, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who has attended the pickets, reports.
According to Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", solo pickets must be continued to support Abdulmumin Gadjiev, as well as to "keep the population of Dagestan informed of the criminal case opened against the journalist." Besides, as Mr Kamalov has stated, the actions are "acts of population's legal enlightenment." "Many people don't know that this is a legitimate expression of their will. It is enshrined in Russian laws," he said.
Magdi Kamalov has stated that, despite the rainy weather, colleagues from other editions, as well as non-indifferent townspeople, came to support the editorial staff of the "Chernovik".
