Circassians launch website for restoration of united ethnicon

The United Circassian Information Internet Resource, devoted to the All-Russia Census to be held on October 14-25, 2010. The project is aimed at restoration of the united historical ethnic notion (ethnicon) - a "Circassian" - for all sub-ethnic groups of the Circassian nation.

The project was launched by joint efforts of a number of Circassian websites and public organizations, who plan to place news, publicist and analytical materials covering the problems related to artificial terminological split of the Circassian people.

As of today, Circassian nationals living in different subjects of the Russian Federation bear at least 5 ethnic names: "Adygeans", "Adygs", "Circassians", "Kabardians" and "Shapsugs", awarded to them voluntarily and with no account of any scientific-historical arguments during formation of Soviet-time autonomies in 1920s, the Adyg portal "Kheku Zikhiya" writes.

The action "One nation - one name" and the work of the united information resource named "perepis2010.org" were declared as the activities undertaken under Article 26 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, according to which every citizen of the Russian Federation shall have the right to define and indicate his or her national identity, and nobody can be forced to definition and indication thereof.

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
