British experts reckoned casualties of Russian forces in Chechnya
Russian forces have suffered more casualties in the past year in Chechnya than at any time since war resumed in 1999. Such data are given by the International Institute for Strategic Studies located in Great Britain.
The annual report of the Institute published in The Military Balance periodical says Russian forces suffered 4,749 casualties in Chechnya in 2002-2003.
The report's editor, Col Christopher Langton, specified the figure included Russian soldiers killed and injured between August 2002 and August 2003. He did not comment on the source of the figure. Moscow has not issued casualty figures for its forces in Chechnya since last December. Meanwhile, the Kremlin refused to comment on the report of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
