Medrese teacher assassinated in Dagestan
The body of the teacher of the local Medrese with two gunshot wounds in his head was found in his own house in Yasnaya Polyana village in Dagestan.
Let us note here that attacks on religious figures in Dagestan are frequent. On January 12, in Buglen village, Buinaksk District, Nazim Magomedov, 38, an Imam of local mosque, was shot dead at the exit from his temple. The gunman voluntarily surrendered at the local ROVD, where he confessed of murder. On January 11 in Dagestan, Ahmed Ibragimov, Deputy Imam of one of local mosques and deputy director of the Kizlyar Electromechanical Factory, was assassinated.
The ITAR-TASS reports, with reference to local law enforcement bodies, that the Medrese teacher was presumably killed at 4:30 a.m. Moscow time on March 9.
The year 2009 was also notable for several attempts on churchmen.
On December 14, 2009, in Khasavyurt, unidentified persons attacked Taifur Eldarkhanov, an Imam of one of local mosques, who was hospitalized with injuries. On November 19, in Starye Miatli village, Kizilyurt District, unidentified persons shelled Ibragim Abakarov, a Mullah of a local mosque. And on November 1, Tinamagomed Ramazanov, Imam of the mosque in Bavtugai village, Kizilyurt District, was killed. Another resonant murder was committed in May - in Makhachkala, Ahmed Tagaev, Deputy Mufti of the Spiritual Department of Moslems of Dagestan, was shot dead on his way home from service.
