Experts from Northern Caucasus took active part in seminar on conflict prevention
An annual seminar of the Early Warning and Conflict Prevention Network (EAWARN) was held in the town of Kumbor (Chernogoria) from October 4 to October 11, 2003. Experts from Lithuania, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and nearly 30 regions of Russia, including republics and regions of the Northern Caucasus (Dagestan, Chechnya, North Osetia, Adygeya, Stavropol and Rostov regions) participated in it. Aleksandr Dzadziyev, a member of the Caucasian Forum of NGOs Coordination Board, and Enver Kisriyev, an elder and signer of the Elbrus Declaration, were among the participants too.
The following subjects were raised and discussed during the seminar:
- linguistic legislation and prevention of conflicts;
- situation with interethnic relations in the CIS and Baltic states;
- making of new identities. Ethnical stereotypes, xenophobia, and development of tolerance;
- methodology and mechanisms of ethnological monitoring;
- ethnic and political situation in Serbia and Chernogoria.
