Female accused of Markelov's murder protests against stay in one isolator with Magas

On Thursday, June 10, Evgenia Khasis, a figurant in the murder case of lawyer Stanislav Markelov, refused to take prison food in protest against keeping in the same insulator with one of militants' leaders of Northern Caucasus Ali Taziev, also known as Magas.

Members of the nationalist organization "Russian Image" Evgenia Khasis and her civil husband Nikita Tikhonov, accused of murdering Stanislav Markelov and journalists Anastasia Baburova, are kept in SIZO (pre-trial isolator) "Lefortovo" since November 2009. Two days ago, on June 9, Ali Taziev, who was detained in Ingushetia, was also brought there. He is kept under strengthened guard.

"Evgenia doesn't want to eat from one pot with him (Taziev)," said Alexei Baranovsky, coordinator of the centre "Russian Verdict" and a friend of the detained Khasis and Tikhonov, having emphasized that Khasis did not go on hunger strike; she just decided to reject the prison food.

Evgenia Khasis is going to eat from the parcels that she may receive twice a month. Baranovsky did not tell whether Tikhonov is going to join Khasis, as the "Izvestia" newspaper writes.

So far, the Federal Punishment Enforcement Service has not reported about any action undertaken by Khasis, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
