International "Recognition Award" conferred on Memorial Office in Nazran

In Vienna, Austria, on November 13, 2003, the activist of the Memorial Office in Nazran Ousam Baysaev was given the so called "Recognition Award", which is annually conferred on human rights activists by the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF).

Memorial was awarded for its work on Chechnya and Chechen refugees and for keeping a daily chronicle of human rights violations in this region.

The next day Ousam Baysaev and Moscow Helsinki Group Chairwoman Lyudmila Alekseyeva participated in debates on Chechnya during the IHF's General Assembly.

  • Defender of Sochi gardeners' rights claims illegal prosecution

    Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.
