Two Chechen journalists became finalists in All-Russian competition "For Journalism as a Deed"

Two journalists from Chechnya reached the final of the competition to get the 2003 Andrey Sakharov Award "For Journalism as a Deed". They are Maynat Abdulayeva, a correspondent for the Novaya Gageta and Voices of the Chechen Republic newspapers, and Timur Aliyev, an editor of the Chechen Society newspaper. The competition was organized by the Andrey Sakharov Museum and Public Center. The award ceremony took place on December 10, International Human Rights Day, in the Andrey Sakharov Public Center, a press release by the competition organizers reads. Galina Kovalskaya of the Weekly Magazine, Moscow was announced the laureate of the competition posthumously. Natalya Chernova from Moscow, Miyasat Muslimova from Makhachkala, and Inga Zemzare from Saint Petersburg were nominees. Those journalists who reached the final of the competition were presented diplomas. Altogether about 100 authors from dozens of Russian towns send their works to participate in the 2003 competition.
