In Sochi, policeman sentenced for beating detainee

In Sochi, a police officer was sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment for beating a detainee.

According to investigators, on June 22, the police officer of the 3rd class of the commandant's division of the UVD (Interior Department) of the city of Sochi gave three kicks to the head of the man, who had already been detained and handcuffed.

"The police officer had caused injuries to the detainee, and on the grounds of danger to life they were qualified as serious bodily injuries," reported the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory.

The Adler District Court of Sochi convicted the defendant for forcible abuse of power, deprived him the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies for a period of 3 years and sentenced him to imprisonment in a minimum security penal colony, the "Yuga.ru" reports.

Comments of the convict and his lawyer on the verdict of the court are still not available.
