Human Rights in Russia website took initiative in conducting antiwar action on Day of United Actions Against War in Chechnya
The "first Chechen" war began nine years ago. Since that time, military actions, acts of terrorism, and "purges" have claimed lives of 20-25 thousand soldiers and officers of both the parties and 60-70 thousand civilians, according to different estimates. The Human Rights in Russia website (www.hro.org) has taken the initiative in conducting an antiwar action in Internet on Day of United Actions Against War in Chechnya. On December 11, all those who support this action are offered for 15 minutes to substitute the "memorial page" with a picture of a burning candle against the black background for home pages of their websites. We must not forget about thousands of Russian citizens perished and remember that the war can reach our homes if we are indifferent. Let us recall the victims of this tragedy: people of the republic and refugees, Chechens and Russians, soldiers and civilians. Let us honor the memory of all the people lost in the cruel wars in the North Caucasus.
