Abashidze released arrested observer

Georgy Mshveniaradze, an activist of the non-government organization "Young Lawyers Association" detained by Adjarian law-enforcement agencies in Kobuleti on November 2, the day of parliamentary elections in Georgia, was released on December 7.

The Adjarian Foreign Ministry gives no comment on the grounds why the Young Lawyers Association observer was detained and has been held in custody for over a month. Georgy Mshveniaradze was in Adjaria on November 2 to observe the parliamentary elections there.

He was beaten and arrested after he had started to officially register a complaint concerning a violation noticed by him during the election. The court sentenced him to 3-month imprisonment.

After the arrest of Georgy Mshveniaradze, the Young Lawyers Association has repeatedly addressed requests to international human rights organizations and embassies of foreign countries asking them to interfere in the case.
