Gvashev suspects power agents of plotting new provocations

Circassian activist Ruslan Gvashev, who is quitting his protest hunger strike under doctors’ supervision in the sanatorium, said that he feels better and plans to come to Krasnodar to the court session on his appeal; however, Mr Gvashev himself and his supporters fear power agents’ provocations on October 16.

Former head of the Council of Elders of Circassian Shapsugs Ruslan Gvashev was on hunger strike since September 11. He declared hunger strike in protest against a fine for praying at the Tulip Tree.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 5, Ruslan Gvashev stopped his long hunger strike at the request of the activists, who gathered at a spontaneous rally in his support.

Ruslan Gvashev is quitting his hunger strike under doctors’ supervision in one of sanatoriums of Karachay-Cherkessia, Valery Khatazhukov, the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian human rights centre, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ruslan Gvashev himself has admitted that during his first few days at the sanatorium he felt bad and slept a lot, but by now his energy has returned to him. He has confirmed that he is getting ready for the consideration of his appeal at the Krasnodar Territorial Court.

"I really want to be there, but if there are provocations on the road, I'll come back. Two advocates will be present there; while Circassians are going to support me on October 16 at the courthouse," he has stressed.
