Rostov resident sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for trying to join ISIL

The North-Caucasian District Military Court has pronounced a guilty verdict to a resident of Rostov-on-Don who was detained at the airport on the way to militants in Afghanistan.

Abdurakhim Mukhidinov, a native of Tajikistan, has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony. According to advocate Stanislav Khodyrev, Abdurakhim Mukhidinov has pleaded completely guilty and he has no intention to appeal against the verdict, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to investigators, in the period from March to June 1, 2017, Abdurakhim Mukhidinov was preparing to participate in the activities of the Afghanistani unit of the "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia.

Abdurakhim Mukhidinov used Internet to report his personal data to an IS recruiter, agreed with him an itinerary to Afghanistan (through Armenia and Iran), and bought uniforms and purchased a flight ticket from Rostov-on-Don to Yerevan.

However, Abdurakhim Mukhidinov failed to join the militants, since on June 1, 2017, he was detained while passing border control at the airport in Rostov-on-Don.

Besides, in the period from May 23 to May 31, 2017, Abdurakhim Mukhidinov tried to persuade his acquaintance to join the IS, the press service of the North-Caucasian District Military Court reports.
