Father of Kurbanov brothers claims investigators' inaction on applications about their kidnapping
Mikail Kurbanov, the father of the Kurbanov brothers from the Kayakent District of Dagestan, has stated to the court that investigators refused to initiate a case on his applications about his sons' kidnapping.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the consideration of the case of Mukhtar and Ismail Kurbanov is underway since September 17, 2019. On November 25, the prosecutor said that Mukhtar Kurbanov had several times confessed to participating in the Syrian conflict on militants' side. The brothers explain their refusal from defence and confessions during the investigation by the pressure from law enforcers.
On March 3, the Southern District Military Court continued considering the Kurbanov brothers' case.
Speaking at the court session, Mikail Kurbanov accused the investigating bodies of inaction. "It's obvious from the gathered materials that my sons have been kidnapped; however, investigators fail to conduct an objective examination of these circumstances," the father has stated.
The defendants themselves also told the court that on October 18 and October 23, 2018, they filed applications demanding to open cases against the law enforcers, who used torture and threats against them; however, according to the brothers, their applications were also not registered.
The defence intends to appeal against the refusal to institute cases against law enforcers on Kurbanovs' applications, Alfat Gabbasov, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
