Azerbaijani oppositionist Gusein Melik arrested for 15 days
In Baku, a court pronounced a decision to arrest for 15 days Gusein Melik, a member of the board of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Welfare Movement. The court found Gusein Melik guilty of disobeying the police. The activist's colleagues promised to appeal against the court's decision.
Gusein Melik was detained on September 10, reported Gubad Ibadoglu, the leader of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Welfare Movement (ADWM).
"We believe that the accusation is far-fetched. If he had not obeyed the police, he would have been detained at the place. However, he was taken away from home," Gubad Ibadoglu said.
He suggested that Gusein Melik was arrested because of his harsh post on social networks, in which the activist condemned the arrest of Tofig Yagublu.
Gubad Ibadoglu noted that Gusein Melik was an active participant in the national democratic movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s and was a member of the "Musavat" Party. Since 2015, Gusein Melik has been a member of the ADWM. The activist was repeatedly arrested.
