“Musavat” Party claims political motives of Nizamali Suleimanov’s arrest
Nizamali Suleimanov, an activist of the “Musavat” Party, was arrested because of a fabricated conclusion of a narcological examination conducted two months ago, claimed Arzulla Buludlu, the leader of the Surakhany regional organization of the “Musavat” Party. He called the case politically motivated. An advocate will file an appeal against the arrest of Nizamali Suleimanov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nizamali Suleimanov was arrested for 20 days on the charge of drug trafficking. His nephew Akif Suleimanov was also arrested for 20 days. The “Musavat” Party treats their arrests as pressure on the opposition.
Arzulla Buludlu explains that the police charge both arrested men of using marijuana.
Meanwhile, Nizamali Suleimanov’s nephew Akif was not a member of the “Musavat” Party, but he expressed his interest in discussions in it. The nephew’s arrest is aimed at moral pressure on Nizamali, Arzulla Buludlu believes.
Mustafa Gadjibeili, the chief of the press service for the “Musavat” Party, notes that party members are regularly subjected to pressure with requests to quit the party. “People are being threatened with dismissals, raids on their businesses, and troubles for their family members,” Mustafa Gadjibeili said.
According to his version, the pressure on party members in the Surakhany District may be associated with the appointment of a new chief of the law enforcement body there, who is well known for his dislike of the opposition. The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) twice recognized the facts of torture in actions of the above law enforcer.
