Commander of Russian peacemakers assess his work in Nagorno-Karabakh

Rustam Muradov, a former commander of the Russian peacemaking mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, has presented his successor to the head of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD). Civilians have returned to Karabakh; life in the region "is in full swing," Muradov has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 7, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, a native of Dagestan, took part in the Armenian-Azerbaijani exchange of prisoners of war (POWs).

Mr Muradov said he was satisfied with the outcomes of his mission in the region. He has recalled that Russian peacemakers will stay in Karabakh at least until the end of 2025.

On September 6, Muradov met Arshak Karapetyan, the head of the Armenian MoD. The parties discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Also, Rustam Muradov introduced Mikhail Kosobokov, the new commander of the Russian peacemaking contingent, to Zakir Gasanov, the head of the Azerbaijani MoD, the website of the MoD has reported.

Immediately after Muradov's appointment as the head of the Russian peacemakers in Karabakh, information appeared about his alleged Azerbaijani origin.
