Georgian citizens detained in South Ossetia are back at large

The South-Ossetian authorities have released the two Georgian citizens, who had been detained near the village of Ergneti. A day earlier, another citizen, who fell down during detention and broke his arm, was transported to Georgia.

Citizens of Georgia, Roman Gochashvili and Gocha Metreveli, detained for violating the South-Ossetian border, were released on October 6. According to the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), their release was possible through the mediation of EU observers. The co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions were also involved, the "Georgia-Online" reports.

Another Georgian citizen, Nikoloz Pekhshvelashvili, tried to run away from law enforcers, but fell down from the height of about 10 meters and received traumas. On October 5, he was hospitalized in Georgia, the "InterPressNews" reports.

Let us remind you that on July 3, 2020, the "Caucasian Knot" published, in parallel with the human rights organization "Amnesty International", a report on human rights violations as a result of the so-called "borderization" in Georgia. The restrictions on crossing the demarcation lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia are violating the rights of residents of border villages, who cannot manage their households because of detention risks, the report said.
