After clash with police in Baku, doctors diagnose journalist's fracture
Nargiz Absalamova, a correspondent of the "Abzas", has refuted the police's statement that the journalists' action against the draft law "On Media" in Baku ended without incidents. According to her story, after the clash with law enforcers, she fell down and received a trauma. Doctors diagnosed her with a tailbone fracture.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, Azerbaijani journalists held a protest action, demanding to set up a working group of civil society activists to re-discuss the bill "On Media", which, in their opinion, would aggravate repressions against the freedom of speech in the country.
After the December 28 journalists' action in Baku, the press service of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) assured that law enforcers had used no force against the protesters. However, a video of the action appeared on the Internet, which shows that when trying to stop the action, law enforcers threw four young women to the ground.
One of them, Nargiz Absalamova, a journalist of the "Abzas" website, fell down on a stone curb. Now she has been prescribed to stay in bed for three weeks.
"We demand that the policeman be punished; possibly, a judicial investigation is needed. If necessary, we will bring the process up to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)," Ms Absalamova has stated.
