Social network users criticize new textbooks of Kabardian language

The new textbooks of the Kabardian language are morally outdated and too difficult for younger pupils, some Instagram* users have pointed out. Others noted that too little time is allocated in schools for learning the mother tongue.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2021, public organizations of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) claimed a shortage of mother tongue language textbooks in the republic's schools. It was decided to replace old-style textbooks for new ones.

The latest manuals on national languages and literary reading have been received by educational institutions of the KBR.

Some Instagram* users have asked to return old textbooks. "Yesterday, I flipped through the textbook in the Kabardian literature for the second form; and I already wanted to cry from the works of new authors – no meaning, no rhyme," the user ulybka050 has noted.

Some users have also noted that the textbooks fail to meet modern realities.

Let us remind you that on July 24, 2018, the Russian State Duma adopted amendments to the law on education that envisage the study of mother tongues of Russian republics "on a voluntary basis." The amendments angered residents of national regions, who perceived them as a threat to the existence of their national languages and cultures.
