Rights defenders achieve examination of circumstances of Musaeva's detention

Investigators from Nizhny Novgorod have begun checking the applications about possible abuse of authority by law enforcers during the detention of Zarema Musaeva. The check was launched only after the applications were transferred from Chechnya to Nizhny Novgorod, the "Team against Torture" (TaT)* has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 26, the "Support for Political Prisoners" project recognized Zarema Musaeva as a political prisoner.

On January 20, 2022, Zarema Musaeva, the wife of a former federal judge, Saidi Yangulbaev, was abducted by Chechen law enforcers in Nizhny Novgorod and brought to Grozny. On February 1, she was accused of assaulting a law enforcer.

Abubakar Yangulbaev, a lawyer and Musaeva's son has informed on his Telegram channel that investigators began examining the circumstances of his mother's abduction.

Earlier, all the applications of human rights defenders and advocates were forwarded to the Chechen Prosecutor's Office, which found law enforcers' actions to be legitimate.

Let us remind you that after Musaeva's arrest, Ramzan Kadyrov accused the Yangulbaev family of supporting terrorism and said that they should be placed "in prison or under the ground."
