SC upholds verdict to Dagestani Murad Dadashev

The Dagestani Supreme Court (SC) has refused to reduce the prison term of five year appointed to Murad Dadashev, a native of Dagestan, for his posts in the Internet. Dadashev himself has rejected his authorship of the posts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2021, the Military Court in Rostov-on-Don recognized Dadashev's posts in the Internet as justification of terrorism.

The case against Dadashev was initiated because of the video of Chechen militants who fought against federal forces. The examination has established that the video clips had justified "the activities of separatist militants" in the fight "with the authorities of the Russian Federation in the territory of Chechnya."

The defendant claimed that he was at that time at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), and some other user visited his page, while the other page did not belong to him.

The SC has rejected Dadashev's arguments, pointing out that his page also placed a photo of the Chechen field commander Shamil Basaev. Besides, the court relied on the testimony of the prosecution witness, who stated that Murad had criticized the state power in his presence, the "Dosh" outlet has reported.
