In Stavropol Region, people commemorate victims of militants' attack on Budyonnovsk
Today, from early morning, the temples and churches of the city of Budyonnovsk (Stavropol Territory) have hosted sermons in memory of the victims of the 1995 attack on the city of armed militants under command of Shamil Basaev. Hundreds of townspeople, relatives of the victims and participants of those tragic events, took part in commemoration meetings.
"The horrible tragedy is already years away, but the pain for the people innocently lost from gangsters' bullets never abates," said Mayor of the city Alexander Yurchenko.
Today, Budyonnovsk has held a great programme of mourning events in memory of the tragedy; at 12:20 a.m. Moscow time - the starting time of the gangsters' attack - the city held a minute of silence. The ITAR-TASS reports that delegations from sister-cities of Georgievsk and Kizlyar have arrived to pay tribute to the memory of the victims.
"The all-city minute of silence in memory of those perished has become our tradition, we remember those events and we don't want them ever to repeat, therefore, the memory should always live in hearts of people," a spokesman of the city administration told the RIA "Novosti".
During the whole day, the local lore museum will hold a topical excursion named "Exposition in Memory of 1995 Events".
