Two oppositional newspapers restart in Azerbaijan

Journalist Zakhir Azamat has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on September 5 the newspaper "Sanat" ("Arts") will restart its publication. According to Mr Azamat, the newspaper will appear once a month, and it will be not a political but a literature newspaper.

According to Zakhir Azamat, he has received consent to publish the newspaper from its editor-in-chief Samir Sadagatoglu who is now in prison.

The "Sanat" was printed since March 2003. In October 2006, the edition published the article by Rafik Tagi "Europe and Ourselves," later, the editor-in-chief and the author were arrested and convicted to 4 and 3.5 years of imprisonment for kindling religious enmity.

The other oppositional newspaper - "Baky Khabar" - will also restart from September 5 and will be printed 6 times a week, Aidyn Guliev, editor-in-chief of the newspaper, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

We remind you that the oppositional newspaper "Baky Khabar" was stopped this June. The reason was the fine at a rate of 4,500 manats (equal to 5,000 US dollars), which should have been paid as a lump sum. After the newspaper has achieved a change of the court decision into payment by instalments during a year, the newspaper was able to restart its publication.
