EU allocates 12 million euros to Georgia to help refugees

The European Union has decided to provide a 12.1-million euros tranche to Georgia for improving the living conditions of the forced migrant, who have been living as refugees back from early 1990s. This was announced by the European Commission's representative office in Georgia. The tranche is a part of the total help of 51.5 million US dollars.

According to Tamara Mikadze, head of the press and information service of the representative office, the funds are aimed at the state's capacity building in taking steps to improve the situation of all categories of refugees, starting from the 1990s, who suffered in various conflicts, as reported by the "Interfax".

It is assumed that the money will help to accommodate the victims of the warfare in August 2008, and rehabilitate and privatize the collective residence centres, as reported by the "Gazeta.Ru".
