ICRF: murder of "Caucasian Knot" correspondent killed in Dagestan has to do with his professional activities
Investigators consider that the top version of the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper "Novoe Delo" (New Business), is associated with his professional activities. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the spokesman of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for Dagestan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev was shot dead this morning in the village of Semender in Dagestan.
Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev also occupied the position of the First Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper "Novoe Delo" and collaborated with the editions "Chernovik" (Draft) and "Kavkazskaya Politika" (Caucasian Politics).
In May 2012, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev claimed receiving threats. In January 11, unidentified persons fired three shots at Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, but the bullets passed by. The criminal case was instituted on the incident under Part 1 of Article 167 "Intentional destruction or damage to property" and Part 1 of Article 222 "Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of arms" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Abdurashid Sheikhov, the journalist's advocate, stated that the investigation into the case was to be conducted not on the above Articles of the Russian Criminal Code. The advocate has filed a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office about the failure to fulfil the court decision on re-classifying the charges.
According to the advocate's story, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev had suspicions about who had taken part in that attempt; however, the journalist was never questioned.
