Advocate of Martynyuk, Krasnodar activist, files complaint to ECtHR

The lawyer Alexander Popkov has appealed against the arrest of the Krasnodar activist Leonid Martynyuk to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Leonid Martynyuk, a member of the Political Council of the RPR-Parnas was detained in the evening on August 23, 2014, in Krasnodar on suspicion of disorderly conduct (hooliganism). On August 24, Martynyuk was arrested for 10 days.

The complaint to the ECtHR was sent on March 4, Alexander Popkov, a lawyer from the human rights organization "Agora", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The complaint says that Leonid Martynyuk was illegally detained in Krasnodar in summer of 2014. Now, Martynyuk is in emigration; and his residence is not disclosed.

According to Popkov, in respect to Martynyuk, Russia had violated several articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), namely, on personal freedom and immunity, on fair trial, and others.

The lawyer said that Martynyuk left Russia because he was afraid of unlawful criminal prosecution. Leonid Martynyuk says that he had been pressured by authorities and security agents, said Alexander Popkov, indicating that several times the activist was summoned to Centre "E", where he was exposed to "prophylactic conversations" and intimidations.
