Volgograd residents pay tribute to victims of political repressions (+video)
On October 30, 2015, 117 Volgograd residents paid tribute to the victims of the Stalin's regime.
Every year, on October 30, Russia and some other countries of the former USSR mark the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression, established by the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR).
In the Temple of Saint John the Baptist, located on the upper terrace of the Central embankment of Volgograd, Father Sergey Savenkov served a memorial service in memory of the victims killed in the Gulag dungeons and the residents of the Stalingrad Region, who were unlawfully shot dead.
At 11:00 a.m., a rally was held. Speeches were delivered by members of the public organization "Association of Illegal Political Repressions Victims", officials from the Volgograd Mayor's Office and the administration of the Volgograd Region, and deputies from the Volgograd Regional Duma. The rally was ended with laying carnations at the stone of the monument to the victims of political repressions.
