Investigator refuses Fuad Akhmedli in communication with his family members

In Azerbaijan, activist Fuad Akhmedli is refused his right to visits and phone conversations by the investigator's decision. According to his advocate, the defence treats the above decision as ungrounded.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 18, the police detained Fuad Akhmedli, the leader of the Khatai branch of the Youth Committee of the opposition "Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan" (PFPA). Fuad Akhmedli is accused of disclosing personal information of subscribers of the mobile communication company for which he worked. After his case had been combined with the case against Faig Amirov, another PFPA activist, the investigators started to treat Fuad Akhmedli as a suspected supporter of Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, accused in Turkey of organization of an attempt of a military coup. According to the opposition, the Azerbaijani law enforcement bodies use alleged connection with Fethullah Gülen as an excuse for political persecution of activists.

The investigator has issued a decision to refuse Fuad Akhmedli in visits and phone conversations, reports Asabali Mustafaev, the advocate of Fuad Akhmedli.

According to him, the defence treats the ban as ungrounded and takes measures to lift the restriction, the independent agency "Turan" reports on September 13.

The advocate has also expressed his concern that new charges can be brought against the activist.
