Colleagues of Akhmednabiyev and Kamalov reproach investigators of sluggishness

An efficient investigation into the killings of Dagestani journalists Khadjimurad Kamalov and Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev is hampered by investigators' sluggishness during the first days after the crimes; and because of that, it is now much more difficult to establish many facts, colleagues of the perished journalists state on December 15.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported, referring to the Union of Russian Journalists (URJ), in the last two years, murders and disappearances of journalists, including in Northern Caucasus, have stopped, but many similar crimes remain uninvestigated for years.

On December 15, 2011, Khadjimurad Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik" weekly, was shot dead. He was engaged in investigative journalism, including disappearances, and criticized the authorities and leadership of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan.

Some progress in the investigation into Kamalov's murder was seen after the case was transferred to the Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), said Magdi Kamalov, Khadjimurad's brother and the director of the publishing house "Freedom of Speech" ("Chernovik" weekly).

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Novoye Delo", was killed on July 9, 2013, in a suburb of Makhachkala.

The inquiry into the Akhmednabiyev's murder is suspended; and investigators still have no particular version, said Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the "Novoye Delo".

He believes that law enforcers have no intention to solve the murder, as Akhmednabiyev had often published critical stories about law enforcers' work, and revealed facts of corruption.
