Residents of Chechnya treat child’s return from Syria as precedent
The return to Chechnya of a boy, who had been taken out by his father to Syria, prompted residents of the republic to seek authorities’ assistance in the return of other children.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Russian authorities are trying to return 48 children, who had been brought to Syria and Iraq by their parents who joined terrorists. They cannot be sent to Russia without the documents confirming their Russian citizenship.
Today, an initiative group of women, holding an action in Grozny, will send an appeal to the authorities of Chechnya with a demand to help in the return of children from Syria and Iraq.
"Hundreds of young Chechen women, unwilling to break up their families, or deceived by their husbands were forced to leave the country together with their husbands and children; now they are amidst warfare, literally between life and death. Today, mothers are ready to bear any penalty and admit any punishment for their daughters, just to take home their young grandchildren," says the statement.
