Seven residents of Grozny kidnapped, their relatives report

According to an informed source of the "Caucasian Knot", at night on November 22, seven men were kidnapped from their homes in Grozny. The information on the detentions has been reported to the delegation of the European Committee against Torture, which members stayed in Chechnya, the source noted.

Today, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has confirmed the information that at least seven Grozny residents were kidnapped on November 21-22. "At least two [of them] were taken away at night from their homes in front of their relatives by unidentified law enforcers who arrived by passenger cars," reports the press release of the HRC "Memorial" received by the "Caucasian Knot".

According to the rights defenders' version, those people are being kept in "inhuman conditions" in the territory of a "law enforcement body" in the Staropromyslovsky District. "They are being kept in an unheated room and they get practically no food. The law enforcement bodies do not admit the kidnapped people are being kept at their territory, but we consider the information to be reliable," the HRC "Memorial" reports.

The rights defenders plan to file a complaint about the disappearance of the people to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and to the Russia's Ombudsperson, the HRC "Memorial" announces in its press release.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
