Sochi residents complain about no help after flooding
Residents of Sochi who lost property because of flooding and who lived without registration, as well as those people who recently bought houses, did not get any assistance. The people left without compensation believe it has no sense to seek money through the courts.
After heavy rains in 29 settlements of Sochi, 5300 residential houses were flooded. On October 27, the authorities started paying compensation for the loss of property in the villages and towns of Kuban affected by the flooding.
On October 25, the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory introduced an emergency regime in Sochi. According to the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), on October 31, more than 500 people got injuries after the flooding. Six people were killed and other two are listed as disappeared.
On October 28, in Sochi, the flood victims complained that no one helped them clean the flooded apartments from dirt.
Elena Zhurba and her mother told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they were short of time and did not get registered at the place of residence, since they bought an apartment recently, and therefore they got no compensation. There is no sense in litigating with the Mayoralty because of the payments, since a lawyer and a lawsuit will cost a lot more than the compensation itself, Elena Zhurba believes.
