CaT: law enforcers beat a resident of Kuban

A resident of the Tuapse District has addressed rights defenders and complained that law enforcers beat him and demanded from him to confess to a crime, reports the "Committee against Torture" (CaT).

On November 19, Yevgeny Bunin from the village of Indyuk in the Tuapse District sought legal assistance at the human rights organization "Committee against Torture", reported the press service of the CaT. The man said that on November 12, he was invited to a conversation to a building of a law enforcement body in Tuapse, where he was handcuffed and requested to write a "confession" to a theft.

"I said that I had not been involved in that crime. After that, a law enforcer began to beat me on my head, and blood began to flow from my nose," said Yevgeny Bunin as quoted by the CaT.

According to Yevgeny Bunin, after law enforcers threatened that they would beat him during all night and then detain him anyway as a suspect, he wrote a confession as dictated by the law enforcers. After that, the law enforcers took him home.

The investigating department of Tuapse has already begun to check the complaint filed by Yevgeny Bunin.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention. Despite the statement by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, that the combatants record their appeals as a result of "manipulations," he will have to respond to them, analysts believe.
