Mother of Chechen native asks to save her son from torture at SIZO

Apti Akiev, a native of Chechnya, who is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) in the Omsk Region, is being tortured. Law enforcers are trying to force him to confess to being one of the organizers of riots in the colony, his mother Maret Akieva has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2018, when convoying Akiev from a correctional facility, his convoy lost the key of the handcuffs, and drilled them off with an electric drill; as a result, Apti received burns. The investigator found no grounds for initiating a criminal case, and Akiev himself was accused of organizing riots in the colony.

Apti Akiev was detained in February 2017 on suspicion of extortion. At SIZOs and colonies, he was tortured and abused.

"They beat my heels up with an iron stick; they hung them to a pipe; they threw me on a mattress with my hands and feet roped, and jumped on my waist," he said.

After visiting his son, her mother said that he was in very poor condition.

Vera Goncharova, an advocate, who represents the interests of a Chechen Malkho Bisultanov, said that her client also complained of torture and ill-treatment at the correctional facilities in Omsk after riots in the colony.

"I was tortured with electric current; and when I lost consciousness, they were slapped me in the face or poured water on me," the advocate quoted the complaint.
