Law enforcers launch criminal proceedings against Ingush activists

Investigations into criminal cases on attacks of nine Ingush activists on law enforcers have been launched, advocates report. According to them, some activists were beaten after their detention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 3, the leaders of the Ingush protest Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev were arrested for 10 days.

On March 26, residents of Ingushetia continued without a sanction from the authorities the rally in Magas. On the other day, clashes occurred between protesters and law enforcers. The protesters resisted the policemen's attempt to disperse the rally and threw sticks, chairs, and parts of metal fences at the law enforcers. According to investigators, 10 law enforcers were injured. On April 3, the protest leaders and activists were sentenced to arrests and fines.

Criminal cases were instituted against Bagaudin Khautiev, Abo Dobriev, Gelaniy Khamkhoev, Magomed Khamkhoev, Ibragim Muzhakhoev, Khavazh Dzaurov, Adam Azhigov, Vakha Barakhoev, and Amir Oskanov, reported Zaur Shokuev, a member of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) for Kabardino-Balkaria.

According to advocate Magomed Abubakarov, "unlawful methods of investigation" have been used against some activists. "There are signs of beatings on the activists' bodies," the advocate reported.
