In Berlin, Chechen native arrested in case on Zelimkhan Khangoshvili's murder

A 49-year-old Russian citizen suspected of killing Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a native of the Pankisi Gorge, is arrested, reports the Prosecutor's Office in Berlin. The arrested person is a native of Chechnya, sources report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 23, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a participant of the second Chechen military campaign, was shot and killed in Berlin.

In May 2015, an assassination attempt was committed on Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Tbilisi. Earlier, in 2009, there was an attempt to poison Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, reported Umar Idigov, the head of the Integration Fund of the Caucasus People. According to him, Zelimkhan Khangoshvili enjoys authority among residents of the Pankisi Gorge as a participant of the second Chechen military campaign and the events of August 2012 in the Lopota Gorge.

According to the "Berliner Kurier", Zelimkhan Khangoshvili had been living in Berlin with his family for several years already.

The NGO "Centre for Training and Monitoring of Human Rights" expressed condolences to family members of the deceased man and recalled the previous attempt on Zelimkhan Khangoshvili.
