All picketers at Chechnya's permanent mission in Moscow released from police

The police released the five LGBT activists, who were detained near the building of the Chechnya's permanent mission in Moscow and were still kept at the police station. Policemen saw propaganda of a "non-traditional sexual lifestyle" in the activists' action.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 11, nine LGBT activists held a picket outside the building of the Chechnya's permanent mission in Moscow. They demanded to investigate the murders and torture of gays in Chechnya. All the picketers were detained. By 11:00 p.m., four detainees were released.

In January 2019, it became known about another wave of gay persecution in Chechnya. Since late December 2018, about 40 people were detained in the Chechen Republic for their alleged or actual sexual orientation, and two persons were killed, the NGO "Russian LGBT Network" reported on January 14.

The five activists of the Moscow branch of the "Action!" who stayed at the Meschansky OVD (police division) of Moscow were released at night on October 12. Administrative offense cases were opened against the young people. They are charged with a violation of order of organization or holding a public event, Anastasia Rezyuk, an activist of the "Action!" movement, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The material on the administrative offense, a copy of which is available at the "Caucasian Knot", says that the picketers promoted a "non-traditional sexual lifestyle."

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
