Rights defenders urge to punish law enforcers for provoking "honour killing" in Ingushetia

Employees of the "Legal Initiative" have called to prosecute law enforcers in connection with the murder of a girl, who got into the operative footage in Ingushetia. Human rights defenders also insist that the authorities should ensure the safety of the second girl, also captured by the video.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after an attempt to detain Isa Altemirov, suspected of involvement in a grouping of blackmailers, a video filmed by operative agents appeared on the Internet. The woman who got into the footage was killed on the following day. According to law enforcers, her brother confessed to the murder, stating that his sister had dishonoured the family. It was the video leak that provoked the "honour killing", social network users have suggested.

Isa Altemirov died during his arrest on February 7, when falling from a window. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ingushetia, the previously convicted 36-year-old resident of Ekazhevo, a 23-year-old native of the neighbouring republic and a 33-year-old resident of Magas were in the apartment at that moment. According to sources, members of the grouping, in which Altemirov was a member, were engaged in seducing married women, filmed erotic videos with them, and then extorted money from them and forced them to intimate relationships with other men under the threat of publicizing the videos.

In their appeal sent to the Ingush branch of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), lawyers for the human rights organization "Legal Initiative" have voiced several demands, says the organization's press release.

First of all, rights defenders called for the identification of the law enforcers, who "had broken the secrecy of the operative-search activities, which led to the publication of an operative video with the victims' personal data on the Internet," and institute criminal proceedings against them.

Lawyers also ask to establish the personality and whereabouts of the second woman, who was caught in the operative video, and ensure her safety.
