KChR residents sceptical of voting on constitutional amendments

Most of the residents of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have stated their indifference to the amendments, or their disagreement with them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, set July 1, 2020, as the voting date on constitutional amendments.

The amendments are offending national sentiments and assume the power non-changeability, opponents to the amendments are sure.

Thus, Taulan Ebzeev, a lawyer, has stated that he disagreed with the proposed amendments; he hasn't yet decided whether to participate in the referendum or not.

"If I go to the vote, I'll [categorically] vote against them. I believe that the authorities fail to act in public interests. I expect nothing good from the amendments; and I think most people do the same," Ebzeev said.

A resident of Cherkessk named Elvira declared her indifference to the process of amending the Constitution, and the absence of her intention to go to vote.

Apart from the disagreement with some of the amendments, some residents of the KChR don't understand the meaning of some of them, as Alimat, a local woman, has stated.

"I won't vote for the amendments. I don't quite understand the meaning of all the amendments; and those that I understand don't suit me. Of my friends, no one will vote," the woman said.

The polling was not representative, and reflects only personal opinions of the interviewed residents.
