Tskhinvali residents commemorate victims of Beslan tragedy
An action in memory of the victims of the terror act in Beslan was held in the Theatre Square of Tskhinvali. The day before, in the square, people lit candles, which were spread out on the ground. Anyone could come up and light a candle in memory of those killed in the terror act committed 16 years ago.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from September 1, North Ossetia schools held a three-day watch in memory of the victims killed in the terror act in the Beslan school No. 1 in 2004.
On September 1, 2004, terrorists took 1128 hostages in a gym of the Beslan school No. 1. The special operation to release the hostages was finished on September 3, 2004. As a result of the terror act, 334 people were killed, including 186 children, and other 810 people were injured.
In the afternoon on September 3, a white canvas over 20 meters long was unrolled on the Theatre Square of Tskhinvali, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. Townspeople brought toys, flowers, bottles of water here, as a sign of the fact that while in the gym, the hostages were not able to drink water.
In front of the building of the State Drama Theatre, a stand was set up with photographs of the children killed in that terror act.
About 300 people came to the memorial action. Schoolchildren brought flowers to the white canvas. Accompanied by sounds of mourning music, the organizers of the rally read out the names of all the 334 casualties of the tragedy, after which white balloons were released into the sky.
In South-Ossetian schools, lessons will start on September 5.
