Disappearance of Khalimat Taramova triggers alarm among social network users

Among the inhabitants of the crisis apartment for victims of domestic violence in Makhachkala, whom law enforcers took to the police division in Makhachkala, there was no Chechen woman, Khalimat Taramova, who ran away from her relatives because of beatings; her fate remains unknown.

In the evening on June 10, Svetlana Anokhina, a journalist and a rights defender, reported about a law enforcers' attempt to open the door of the Makhachkala crisis apartment for victims of domestic violence. According to Ms Anokhina, their colleagues from Chechnya arrived there together with Dagestani policemen. One of the girls who were in the apartment was a Chechen woman who ran away from her relatives to avoid beatings.

Ms Anokhina's colleagues have reported that law enforcers had evacuated all the girls kept in the crisis apartment for victims of domestic violence in Makhachkala, and detained Anokhina herself.

"They all are kept at the police division in Makhachkala, except for Khalimat Taramova, that very girl from Chechnya," Ruslan Akhalchi wrote at night of June 11 on the Twitter.

Earlier, Svetlana Anokhina noted that after she and several other persons were taken away from the shelter apartment, a girl from Chechnya and her girl friend remained there. "There are also some unidentified men from Grozny in the apartment who had come to pick up the girl," she said with reference to an activist from the "Kavkaz. Realii"*.

Khalimat Taramova left home because of the violence related to her sexual orientation, the "Mediazona" has reported with reference to the "Russian LGBT Network"*.

"The main point is to avoid opening of some other 'case' against the victim, so that later they could extradite the victim to Chechnya," Igor Yasin wrote in his comment to the message about the detention of Anokhina and the girls from the shelter posted on Sofia Rusova's Facebook page.

"It's most important to keep the victim in safety, but so far there is no news," Sofia Rusova answered to him.
