Putin recommends Kadyrov to participate in election for leader of Chechnya
Vladimir Putin voiced a proposal to Ramzan Kadyrov to participate in the autumn election in order to continue to lead Chechnya. Earlier, the Ramzan Kadyrov has declared he is not willing to be elected for a new term as the leader of Chechnya if even “a few percent of the population” are against his candidacy.
Vladimir Putin announced his proposal to Ramzan Kadyrov to participate in the election for the leader of Chechnya during a working meeting with him, which took place via videoconference. During the meeting, Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov discussed the social and economic situation in the republic, the Kremlin’s website reports.
“You are in the know of what is going on in the region, you work effectively, and you know the situation from the inside. Therefore, I believe you should participate in the election and continue your work. For my part, I can only wish you success,” President Putin said as quoted by the “Interfax”.
During the meeting, Ramzan Kadyrov once again called himself an “infantry soldier of the President of Russia” and promised to fulfil any of his orders.
It should be noted that on May 20, at a meeting with the participation of members of the government, parliament, local self-government bodies, law enforcement bodies, and religious figures, Ramzan Kadyrov declared that he would not participate in the upcoming election if at least “a few percent of the population” opposed his candidacy.
