16 Georgian citizens evacuated from Afghanistan

Employees of a foreign company flew out of Kabul and will return to Georgia today, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reports. According to the diplomats, the above employees are the last Georgian citizens remaining in Afghanistan.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that as of August 16, 23 Georgian citizens, who worked there under contracts for private companies, remained in Kabul, seized by the Taliban*. The Georgian MFA is engaged in arranging their evacuation. On August 19, a British employer took two Georgian citizens from Afghanistan to Germany.

Today, other 16 Georgian citizens have left Afghanistan on a board of a military plane, which is heading to Dubai, the Georgian NFA reports.

“We will try to get those people from Dubai to Tbilisi. However, due to the rules of the pandemic, they may have to continue their journey to London, from where they will be delivered to Georgia. There were delays, some difficulties, but each of them arrived safely in airport. They will probably arrive in Georgia by the end of the day,” reported Alexander Gvtisiashvili, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia.

According to the MFA of Georgia, those were the last Georgian citizens remaining in Afghanistan.
