“Novaya Gazeta” discloses data on pressure on a witness in case on Politkovskaya’s murder
Law enforcers put pressure on a secret witness in a case on the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya: they threatened him with criminal prosecution and demanded from him to testify as requested by investigators, the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta” reported on the 15th anniversary of the murder of the journalist.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on the 15th anniversary of Anna Politkovskaya’s murder, the “Novaya Gazeta” posted on YouTube a documentary about the results of its own investigation into the case. According to the filmmakers, the customers who ordered the crime have gone unpunished for 15 years already, and the statute of limitations on the criminal case expires this year.
Employees of the “Novaya Gazeta” by chance contacted Oleg Golubovich, who became a key witness. Thanks to his testimony, it was possible to find an organizer of the crime, claims Sergey Sokolov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Novaya Gazeta”.
According to him, FSB officers told Oleg Golubovich that if he did not “testify correctly,” he would also be involved in the criminal case as an accomplice in the Anna Politkovskaya’s murder.
The editorial office of the “Novaya Gazeta” helped Oleg Golubovich to leave Russia together with his family in exchange for a full testimony. From what Oleg Golubovich had said, it became clear that the main organizer of the crime was GUVD (Chief Interior Division) Lieutenant Colonel Pavlyuchenkov, after that he confessed, and the killer was arrested.
The authorities know the name of the person who ordered to kill Anna Politkovskaya, Dmitry Muratov, the editor-in-chief of the “Novaya Gazeta”, suggests.
