Vladikavkaz colony inmates achieve meeting with Ombudsperson

Tamerlan Tzgoev, the North-Ossetian Ombudsperson, has listened to the complaints of the prisoners of the Vladikavkaz colony, where riots has taken place, and handed over their proposals on how to settle the situation into the operative headquarters.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 15, sources informed about riots in the high security colony in North Ossetia. Law enforcers blocked the inmates who had staged the riots, and cordoned off the colony perimeter. Sources also reported about victims. Colony inmates sent their complaints to the hotline for combating torture in jails. They stated that beatings preceded the riots.

Tamerlan Tzgoev, the North-Ossetian Ombudsperson, said that he had visited colony and talked with the prisoners. "The talks passed more or less adequately. It's necessary to restore law and order. So far, there are no concrete decisions, but the options have been discussed," the "Interfax" quoted the Ombudsperson as saying on October 16.

Mr Tzgoev has added that he handed the options that were voiced out by inmates over to the operative headquarters; he also stated that there were no victims of the riots.

According to the Ombudsperson, during the talks, rioters complained about the custody conditions and poor quality of medical care.
