Doctor informs about Salekh Rustamov's risk of death

Salekh Rustamov, an Azerbaijani activist, who is on a hunger strike in jail, is injected with nutrients intravenously, but this will not replace adequate nutrition, especially amid his suffered stress, his age and diseases, Adil Geibulla, a doctor, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, Salekh Rustamov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), went on a hunger strike in protest against the fact that he had not been covered by the amnesty. On November 30, a number of political parties demanded his release. The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has sent a request to the Azerbaijani authorities about the state of health of the prisoner.

Turkish medical experts have diagnosed Rustamov with the death of brain cells. In its turn, the Penitentiary Service denied the information about Rustamov's mental health problems, but his defence disagrees with the Service. Rustamov refuses to eat, although he has already lost hope in the efficiency of his protest, his advocate said on the 35th day of Salekh's hunger strike.

Rustamov has suffered from COVID-19, and, according to the doctor, Adil Geibulla, the postcovid syndrome poses an additional danger, at any time the hunger-striker faces a fatal outcome.

Let us remind you that on December 11, Ned Price, the official of the US State Department, and Stephan Schennach and Richard Bacon, the PACE co-rapporteurs, made an appeal to release Rustamov.
