Abkhaz Union of Journalists demands to punish attackers on media professionals

The Abkhaz Union of Journalists treats the attack on the filming team at a rally in Sukhumi as an obstacle to their legitimate professional activities and demanded that those responsible be punished.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 21, a rally was held in Sukhumi, during which protesters tried to break through to the parliament building, and law enforcers used smoke bombs against them. During the filming of the rally, the team of the Abkhaz TV suffered. According to the TV Company, the driver and the operator received bodily injuries.

On December 21, the Abkhaz Union of Journalists condemned the incident with the film team of the Abkhaz TV. The Union stated that during the rally there was a fact of obstructing the legitimate journalists' professional activities with the use of violence, the "Interfax" reports.

The Union has expressed hope that the attack on journalists will be investigated "thoroughly, and the perpetrators will be punished as they deserve," the "Apsnypress" reports.
