Police refuse to inform Ataev about reasons for his detention at picket

Eduard Ataev and Ruslan Magomedov, who were detained at solo pickets, spent the night at a police station in Makhachkala. Eduard Ataev has been taken to court, but he does not know what he is accused of, the activist says. Today, the police have again refused to allow an advocate visit Ruslan Magomedov, his defender reports.

The police detained activist Ruslan Magomedov, who was holding a solo picket on a square in Makhachkala on January 25 against persecution of critics of the authorities. On the same day, the police also detained Eduard Ataev, who went to a solo picket with a poster against corruption in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan.

Today, lawyer Marat Ismailov, who also has a power of attorney to represent Ruslan Magomedov’s interests, has tried to visit his client at the regional police department, but the police refused to let the lawyer in.
