LGBT Week organizers demand security guarantees from Georgian authorities

Authorities of Georgia must guarantee the safety of LGBT Week participants, as LGBT opponents threaten to disrupt the events, the organization "Tbilisi Pride" has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Pride Week" LGBT actions in Georgia were scheduled from June 28 to July 2. The "Tbilisi Pride" has abandoned the idea to hold a "March of Dignity" in Tbilisi this year, explaining that it is not safe for the participants.

Although there will be no public "March of Dignity" this year, and all events are planned indoors, LGBT opponents threaten to disrupt these events and repeat the events of July 5, 2021, the "Tbilisi Pride" has warned.

"We demand to punish those in charge of action on July 5, 2021, who continue their violent activities and threaten the European future of the country," the "Tbilisi Pride" has added.

Let us remind you that on June 17, the European Commission stated that Georgia failed to meet the requirements for candidates for European Union (EU) membership, and called on the country to strengthen the gender equality.

At the same time, back this January, the MPs of the PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) have expressed their concern about violations of the freedom of expression of LGBT people in Georgia, which was often accompanied by hatred and violence at the events held by sexual minorities.
